How to Save Money on an Updo

I am a complete and utter klutz when it comes to doing my hair. I don’t know how to use a straightener or curling iron. Let’s just say my specialty is a messy bun and brushed hair. This works fine for the normal day-to-day work events or even date night. Where this burns me is the weddings, military balls, and all the other formal occasions that require my hair in an updo.

Whenever I needed my hair done and couldn’t manage to rope a friend into it, off to the salon I went. I’ll be honest, it drove me crazy! Salons can be expensive, but I have discovered how to save money at the salon and still get a beautiful updo.

How to Save Money on an Updo

I remember for one wedding, I had to come in with my hair pre-straightened. I had to wash my hair, condition it, blow it dry, and then straighten it with an iron before I even set foot in the salon. Let’s just say I was less than impressed, because I thought for $65 I could at least come without straightening my hair!

I’ll never forget that my expensive prom updo fell down 20 minutes later because the hair dresser used 10 bobby pins for my whole head. Anyone who knows me or has seen a photo of my locks knows that my thick hair would not stay up with just 10 pins.

Recently, I accompanied my husband to the Tail Hook Convention in Reno. While my husband was attending some of the meetings I decided to take a spa break, go get my nails done, and go shopping. I had an $80 Loft card, so I thought I would get a free outfit using my points from my Loft credit card.

While walking around I saw a Blow Dry Bar. I had been seeing a lot of them around and decided to check it out.

They only had a “touch up” appointment available instead of a full appointment. I had a function that night and decided to try it. Oh my gosh, I fell in love. It was absolutely perfect!

I had no idea that by giving up the “full appointment,” I saved $20. All I lost was having my hair washed. My hair was still moist from my morning shower so it worked perfectly! For $20, they styled my hair into an adorable updo!

How I learned to Save Money Getting an Updo at the Salon

Are you wondering how to save money at the salon? Try asking for a touch-up appointment instead of a full appointment. Wash your hair yourself at home and save money by not getting a shampoo.

It was the perfect amount of styling for me. It looked really nice, but not over the top. It was done in less than 30 minutes, and most importantly, did not break the budget.

It was the perfect way to get the professional look without the crazy price tag.

I had an amazing look for our party. Here we are at our event.

I love finding all kinds of neat ways to save money to fund my next real estate purchase!
