The Perfect Hiding Spot for Your Lease!

Did you know the hiding spot to keep your lease is your email?

Honestly I found this out by accident. I was at work and I needed documents for a mortgage (mortgage made simple) for one of our houses. I needed to send my lease. Luckily I had it in my inbox because I had scanned it and emailed it to my tenants. Off the lease went to the mortgage broker. Success!

The Perfect Hiding Spot for Your Lease

This key event didn’t provide the lightbulb over my head until later. I finally managed to put two and two together after many trips. I love to travel and have a busy lifestyle. I never seemed to be near a copy of my lease or my files when needed. In the time since I have been a landlord, we  have moved across country, gone overseas three times and made many more domestic trips. Every time our physical files are locked up and inaccessible we always seemed to need a copy of the lease.

By keeping copies of our leases in our email box we have always been able to easily get to them as long as we have email access. There are tons of documentation options out there: drop box, google drive, etc. but I love my email because I seem to have access to that first 🙂 It also makes it super easy to send a copy of the signed lease to tenants should the need for clarification on any issues arise.

So where do you keep your files so they are always accessible?

If you want to know what terms to put IN your lease- read this!

I use free services like SkyDrive or google docs. All my important documents are accessible from any computer….just my two cents. Nice website by the way

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it! I totally agree that Google Docs is also a great resource. I like my email because it is easy to get to from my phone!
