If you are anything like me, you use Facebook constantly. Between keeping up with friends and family, finding great tips from articles posted, networking and responding to pages, I feel like I am on there are all the time.
My Facebook presence has increased over the past year and I have enjoyed networking and getting to know others. I have noticed a few tricks of the trade regarding participation on Facebook and cleaning it up so it’s exactly what you want and I am going to share those with you today!
Streamline Your Time on Facebook:
1) Search Facebook Groups on Your Computer and Phone.
Do you have a question that you know has been asked before on a Facebook group? Well, the great thing is you can search a group for previously mentioned keywords. Not only can this be done on a computer, but you can also do it from your phone with the Facebook app. Just type your keyword into the box by the magnifying glass.
2) Turn Off Notifications
Did you participate in a group thread but now you are done and no longer want to be notified when someone else chimes in? You can turn off notifications but still be notified if you are specifically mentioned. Just go to that thread and click on the arrow in the right hand corner.
3) Follow A Thread
Did you see a thread you love and wanted to follow it? Instead of having to type “following” as a posted comment you can simply use click the arrow in the right hand corner to turn on notifications.
4) Unfollow People
Are you no longer interested in seeing posts from someone, but don’t want to remove them as a Facebook friend? I have unfollowed them. This means that I no longer see their posts and I don’t have to argue with them about how I blocked them. The good news is that with unfollowing they can still see my posts and participate in them.
5) Reduce Posts from One Source
Did you join a group or are you seeing a TON of one person’s posts? You can hide particular posts or tell Facebook that you don’t want to see these kinds of posts any more. I have used it to hide group discussions that I don’t agree with and it has helped reduce the “clutter” on my Facebook page. Jut click that same arrow in the top right hand corner and find the option to hide that particular post.
6) Tag Someone
Do you want to tag or mention someone in a thread? Use the “@” symbol and start spelling out their name. Sometimes just the first name will come up in the dropdown menu and other times you have to use their “second” name too. Click the correct person that pops up and you will have completed your tag.
7) Make Call From Facebook Messenger
Did you know you can make a call through Facebook just as you would with Skype or Facetime? If you have the Facebook messenger app you can call someone as long as they have the data or wifi. I have done this with tons of friends I have met from different Facebook groups. I have also used it to call my husband overseas. It’s free and easy!
8) Check Your “Others” Folder
Did you know that you could have messages in your “others” folder? To date, I know of only being able to check this from a computer. Click on your messages and then click on the folder marked other. If someone sends you a message that you aren’t friends with then this is where that message will end up.
Were there any tricks that I missed? How do you keep your Facebook timeline clean?
